Over the past five years, SMU has received more than 60 provincial and industry-level awards in science, technology, and social sciences. During the same period, it has secured 576 national and provincial research projects and undertaken 1,334 industry-commissioned projects. Faculty members and students have published 920 high-impact academic papers and obtained 1,364 national patents, demonstrating the university’s growing research and innovation capacity. SMU has also achieved outstanding results in innovation and academic competitions. In the China International College Students’Innovation Competition, it has won 1 national gold medal, 2 national silver medals, and 21 national bronze medals, as well as 27 provincial gold medals, 28 provincial silver medals, and 42 provincial bronze medals. In the 2019-2023 National Ranking of Student Academic Competitions among New Undergraduate Universities, SMU ranked 54th nationwide.
SMU is committed to international engagement by actively responding to the national Belt and Road initiative and continuously promoting high-quality international exchanges and cooperation. Focusing on student exchanges, academic collaboration, and scientific research cooperation, SMU has established partnerships with 43 universities globally. Currently, SMU offers 1 Sino-foreign cooperative education program, 2 international general education curriculum programs, and 5 undergraduate programs taught entirely in English for international students. To date, SMU has enrolled more than 200 international students from over 40 countries.
